Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Izipry (OX124) is a high-dose intranasal naloxone rescue medication developed by Orexo for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose, including those involving potent synthetic opioids like fentanyl. It utilizes Orexo's proprietary AmorphOX technology, a powder-based formulation designed to provide rapid absorption and high plasma concentrations of naloxone. As a non-selective opioid receptor antagonist, naloxone competitively binds to mu, kappa, and delta opioid receptors in the central nervous system, effectively reversing opioid-induced respiratory depression and other toxic effects of opioid agonists. The product was submitted for FDA approval in 2023 and has since been approved.
