Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iztalvys (BP08) is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by CuraTeQ Biologics, a subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma, as a biosimilar to the reference product tocilizumab (Actemra). It is designed to target and bind with high affinity to both soluble and membrane-bound interleukin-6 receptors (sIL-6R and mIL-6R). By competitively inhibiting the binding of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) to its receptor, Iztalvys prevents the assembly of the IL-6/IL-6R/gp130 complex and subsequent downstream signaling pathways, such as the JAK-STAT pathway. This mechanism effectively reduces the inflammatory response associated with autoimmune diseases, primarily rheumatoid arthritis. Iztalvys is developed for administration via intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection, following the clinical standards established by the reference biologic.
