Drug intelligence / Profile preview
J-51 is a non-integrating, replication-incompetent lentiviral vector-based therapeutic vaccine being developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Originally developed using a lentiviral platform from the Pasteur Institute and Theravectys, and engineered by Shanghai Jinwei Biotechnology, J-51 encodes the HBV genotype C large S antigen (LHBs). The vaccine is designed to transduce antigen-presenting cells without genomic integration, enabling prolonged transient antigen expression. This presentation via MHC class I molecules activates potent, HBV-specific CD8+ T-cell responses to clear viral-infected hepatocytes and reduce serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) levels.
