JA-004

JA-004 is an investigational drug candidate developed by Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). It is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and inhibit interleukin-23 (IL-23), a key cytokine involved in the inflammatory pathways of several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. By specifically binding to the p19 subunit of IL-23, JA-004 prevents the cytokine from interacting with its receptor, thereby blocking the downstream signaling that leads to the activation and maintenance of Th17 cells. This mechanism is intended to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and IL-22, which are central to the pathogenesis of conditions like psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease. JA-004 has been evaluated in early-stage clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.
