Overview

Jambone E is a phenolipid compound isolated from the fruit tree Syzygium jambos and also present in Syzygium cumini. It has demonstrated potential antidiabetic activity in vitro and in vivo, including enhanced glucose consumption, increased glycogen synthesis, and suppression of gluconeogenesis in insulin-resistant hepatocytes and diabetic mouse models. Mechanistically, jambone E acts mainly by activating the AKT-mediated insulin signaling pathway, resulting in upregulation of AKT phosphorylation and modulation of related metabolic gene expression. Jambone E also exhibits weak antioxidant activity and is a member of the broader class of phloroglucinol derivatives isolated from Syzygium species. The compound is being investigated for its utility in the management of metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus.
