Overview

JAN101 is a twice-daily, orally administered, slow-release (sustained-release) formulation of therapeutic sodium nitrite. It is being developed primarily for the treatment and prevention of peripheral artery disease (PAD), a chronic condition characterized by reduced blood flow to the extremities due to atherosclerosis or other vascular pathologies. The drug works by restoring blood flow in ischemic tissues through mechanisms that include promoting angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) and arteriogenesis (development of collateral circulation). Clinical studies have shown that JAN101 can improve tissue perfusion and reduce PAD-associated pain, potentially offering a non-addictive alternative to opioid therapy for pain management in these patients. Additionally, it has been investigated for its potential use in treating vascular complications associated with COVID-19[1][6][8].
