Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The SA14-14-2 live-attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine is a safe and highly effective vaccine used for active immunization against Japanese encephalitis (JE). Developed by the Chengdu Institute of Biological Products (CDIBP) in China, the vaccine is prepared by propagating the attenuated SA14-14-2 strain of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in primary hamster kidney cell cultures. It is the first JE vaccine to be prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO) for pediatric use. Administered subcutaneously, a single dose of the vaccine provides long-term protective immunity (at least five years) in endemic areas by eliciting robust neutralizing antibody and cell-mediated immune responses.
