Jasmate (Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital)

Jasmate is a multi-ingredient herbal toothpaste developed by Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital for the management of dentinal hypersensitivity, particularly in patients with chronic periodontitis following scaling and root planing. The formulation combines traditional desensitizing agents like potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride with hydroxyapatite and a variety of herbal extracts, including *Curcuma longa* (curcumin), clove oil, *Acacia arabica*, and spinach leaves. It operates through a dual mechanism of action: potassium nitrate acts to desensitize nerve fibers within the dental pulp by increasing extracellular potassium concentration, while hydroxyapatite and herbal components promote the physical occlusion of exposed dentinal tubules to prevent the hydrodynamic flow that triggers pain. The toothpaste is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to assess its efficacy and safety compared to other desensitizing products.
