Overview

Jatropha curcas extract is a botanical extract derived from the *Jatropha curcas* plant (physic nut), which has been investigated for its potential anticancer properties, particularly in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Research indicates that ethanol extracts of the plant (often coded as JCP1 in studies) induce apoptosis and anoikis in MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The mechanism involves the downregulation of β1-integrin expression and the phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) at Tyr397, leading to cell detachment and subsequent programmed cell death. While used in African traditional medicine, it remains in the preclinical research stage for oncology.
