Overview

Javeroic acid is a lanostane-type triterpenoid isolated from the medicinal mushroom *Fuscoporia torulosa* (formerly known as *Phellinus torulosus*). Chemically identified as 3-oxolanosta-8,24-dien-21-oic acid, it is one of several bioactive secondary metabolites that contribute to the pharmacological profile of this mushroom. Javeroic acid and related triterpenes from *F. torulosa* have been investigated in preclinical research for their potential therapeutic properties, including cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines such as MCF-7 (breast cancer) and PC-3 (prostate cancer). Additionally, extracts containing javeroic acid have demonstrated inhibitory effects on enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and tyrosinase, suggesting potential applications in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and skin hyperpigmentation. It also exhibits antioxidant capacity, which may provide protective effects against oxidative stress-related cellular damage.
