JB991 is a small molecule prostaglandin derivative originally developed by Synphora AB for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, specifically psoriasis. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that play a critical role in mediating and controlling inflammatory responses. JB991 was designed to modulate these pathways to reduce skin inflammation. In the early 2000s, Synphora entered into a development agreement with Biovitrum (now Sobi) to advance the compound. The drug reached Phase I clinical trials, where its safety and tolerability were evaluated for topical application. However, development appears to have ceased, and the drug is no longer listed in active company pipelines.
