Overview

JBPOS0101 is a novel small molecule antiepileptic drug candidate developed by BioPharm Solutions. It acts as an antagonist of metabotropic glutamate receptor type 1 (mGluR1) and metabotropic glutamate receptor type 7 (mGluR7), and also modulates other mGluRs including activation of mGluR4 and inhibition of mGluR5. The drug has demonstrated broad-spectrum anticonvulsant activity in preclinical models—including efficacy in pharmaco-resistant epilepsy and benzodiazepine-resistant status epilepticus—and shows neuroprotective properties potentially related to blood-brain barrier protection. Clinical development has focused on refractory infantile spasms and status epilepticus; it is currently in phase II trials for epilepsy/infantile spasms. Orphan drug designation has been granted for certain rare seizure disorders[4][5][6][8].
