Overview

JDS-103 is a non-hormonal drug candidate developed by JDS Therapeutics for the treatment of vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes and night sweats) associated with menopause. It is an oral formulation that combines a low dose of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) escitalopram with biotin. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the serotonin transporter (SERT), which increases synaptic serotonin levels to modulate thermoregulatory centers in the hypothalamus that are disrupted during menopause. Biotin is included in the formulation to potentially enhance the safety profile or metabolic parameters of the treatment. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02742376) demonstrated that JDS-103 significantly reduced the frequency and severity of hot flashes compared to placebo. However, clinical development appears to have stalled following the acquisition of JDS Therapeutics' consumer division by Pharmavite.
