Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jena DM is an *Artemisia annua*-based poly-herbal formulation developed by Jena Herbals (U) Ltd in Uganda. It is primarily investigated as a complementary therapy for glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although preclinical studies of *Artemisia* species have suggested antidiabetic potential, a 12-week quasi-experimental clinical study of Jena DM did not demonstrate a statistically significant reduction in HbA1c levels when used alongside conventional oral hypoglycemic agents. However, the formulation was associated with a significant reduction in total body weight. Reported adverse events include dizziness and epigastric pain.
