JEV-PLLAV vaccine is a veterinary vaccine candidate developed by ViroVet for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in swine. The vaccine utilizes ViroVet's proprietary Plasmid-Launched Live Attenuated Virus (PLLAV) technology, which involves the administration of a DNA plasmid that encodes the entire genome of a live attenuated virus. Once inside the host cells, the plasmid initiates the replication of the attenuated virus, effectively 'launching' a live-virus infection that triggers a robust and comprehensive immune response. This approach combines the manufacturing stability and safety profile of DNA vaccines with the high immunogenicity of live attenuated vaccines. In swine, which serve as a major amplifying reservoir for the Japanese encephalitis virus, the vaccine has demonstrated strong protective efficacy in preclinical studies reported as of late 2021.
