Overview

JHL1149 is a proposed biosimilar to bevacizumab (Avastin), developed initially by JHL Biotech (now Eden Biologics). It is a monoclonal antibody that acts as an angiogenesis inhibitor by targeting vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby inhibiting the formation of new blood vessels that supply tumors. The drug is intended as an affordable alternative for the treatment of several cancers, including metastatic colorectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and glioblastoma. Clinical development has included phase 1 pharmacokinetic studies in healthy volunteers in Europe and China[1][2][3][4][5][7].
