JI-11 is a novel small molecule inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS/NOS1) that was investigated for its potential in the prevention and treatment of melanoma. Developed by researchers at the University of California, Irvine, JI-11 targets the nNOS/NO pathway, which has been shown to stimulate the proliferation and metastatic capacity of human melanoma cells. In preclinical studies, JI-11 was found to attenuate the pro-tumorigenic effects induced by UVB radiation and nitric oxide donors. Additionally, JI-11 has demonstrated the ability to sensitize melanoma cells to the chemotherapy drug cisplatin, suggesting its potential as a combination therapy for advanced melanoma.
