Overview

Ji Gami (also known as Ji Gami CN or ARI-301) is an autologous cell therapy developed by the Aderans Research Institute for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a small biopsy of hair-bearing scalp from the patient, from which dermal and epidermal cells—specifically dermal papilla cells—are isolated and expanded in vitro. These cultured cells are then re-injected into the patient's thinning scalp areas. The mechanism of action relies on the inductive signaling properties of dermal papilla cells to stimulate the formation of new hair follicles (neogenesis) or to rejuvenate existing miniaturized follicles. Although the therapy reached Phase 2 clinical trials, development was halted in 2013 when the parent company, Aderans, discontinued its hair regeneration research operations.
