Overview
Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (JWXYS), also known as Dan Zhi Xiao Yao San, is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula used to treat patterns of Liver Qi stagnation and Spleen deficiency with internal heat. It is a modification of the base Xiao Yao San formula, supplemented with *Moutan Cortex* (Dan Pi) and *Gardenia Fruit* (Zhi Zi). The formula is widely utilized in East Asia for the management of psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder and anxiety, as well as gynecological and stress-related conditions including menopausal symptoms and insomnia. Its pharmacological effects are attributed to the modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, regulation of neurotransmitter systems (serotonin and dopamine), and the upregulation of neurotrophic factors like BDNF.
