Overview

Jiajian Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang (加减麻黄附子细辛汤) is a modified traditional Chinese medicine formula based on the classic prescription "Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang" (麻黄附子细辛汤), which originates from the ancient text "Shang Han Lun". The base formula consists of three main herbs: Ephedra (Mahuang), Aconite root (Fuzi), and Asarum (Xixin). The modification ("jiajian") refers to adjustments in composition or dosage according to clinical needs. This decoction is primarily used for conditions characterized by yang deficiency with external wind-cold invasion, such as chills, fever, headache, lack of sweating, cold limbs, and fatigue. Its mechanism involves warming yang, dispelling cold, unblocking meridians, and supporting the body's defensive qi. Modern research suggests it may have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects[1][3][6]. It is commonly used for chronic coughs due to cold-phlegm patterns, bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, rheumatic pain aggravated by cold exposure, and other disorders fitting its pattern discrimination[4][8].
