Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jian-Pi Bu-Shen Jie-Du-Fang (JPBS) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formula investigated for its role in cancer supportive care. It is being studied for its ability to help patients better tolerate chemotherapy by alleviating side effects. Specifically, in a phase III trial for colon cancer patients receiving CAPOX (capecitabine and oxaliplatin) chemotherapy, JPBS was shown to significantly improve the completion rate of planned chemotherapy cycles compared to a placebo. The formula reduced the incidence of vomiting but was associated with a higher incidence of thrombocytopenia. JPBS is derived from two classic TCM formulas, Liujunzi Decoction and Er’zhi Wan. Its proposed mechanisms include regulating the gut microbiome, protecting against gastrointestinal injury, and mitigating bone marrow suppression through cytokine interaction and reduction of c-myc expression.
