Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jian Pi Xiao Ji Fang (JPXJF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily developed and studied for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The formula is based on the TCM principle of "strengthening the spleen and resolving accumulation" (Jianpi Xiaoji). It typically consists of a complex mixture of herbs, including *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Baizhu), *Curcuma zedoaria* (Ezhu), and *Scutellaria barbata* (Banzhilian). JPXJF is frequently used as an adjuvant therapy to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) or systemic therapies like sorafenib. Its pharmacological effects include the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis via the downregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), induction of apoptosis through the activation of caspases, and modulation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. Clinical studies have indicated that JPXJF can improve survival rates, enhance immune function, and reduce the adverse effects of conventional chemotherapy in patients with advanced liver cancer.
