Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jian Pi Yi Shen Hua Tan is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, typically administered as granules. It is used primarily for the treatment of cognitive impairment following acute cerebral infarction (stroke), and has also been studied in the context of chronic kidney disease and muscle atrophy. The formula is based on TCM principles aimed at "invigorating the spleen," "tonifying the kidney," and "resolving phlegm." Its mechanism of action involves modulation of inflammatory responses, improvement in mitochondrial quality control processes, regulation of tryptophan metabolism and aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling, as well as potential effects on gut microbiota. Clinical studies suggest it may improve neuropsychological outcomes after stroke-related cognitive impairment[4][8], alleviate muscle wasting in chronic kidney disease by regulating mitochondrial dynamics[2], and exert renoprotective effects via anti-inflammatory pathways[3]. The exact herbal composition can vary but generally includes multiple herbs with purported synergistic effects according to TCM theory.
