Overview
Jiang Tang San Hao Formula is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription, widely used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and related metabolic disorders. It is a multi-ingredient herbal formulation that typically contains Panax ginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, Coptis chinensis, and Salvia miltiorrhiza, among other herbs[6]. Preclinical studies have shown that JTSHF improves glycemic control, enhances insulin sensitivity, and ameliorates glucose and lipid metabolism in models of type 2 diabetes. Its mechanisms appear to involve the regulation of GLUT4 expression and translocation in skeletal muscle via the AMPKα/SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway[1][2], as well as modulation of the gut-microbiota-brain axis, influencing gut microbiota composition, short-chain fatty acids, and hypothalamic neuropeptide expression to regulate feeding and metabolic homeostasis[4]. JTSHF also increases serum GLP-1 and decreases ghrelin, contributing to improved glucose control[4].
