Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiangzhi Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula clinically used for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and related metabolic disorders[2][3]. The decoction is a multicomponent mixture, typically consisting of five herbs: Trichosanthes kirilowii, Alisma orientale, Angelica sinensis, Crataegus pinnatifida, and Polygonum multiflorum[2][3]. Preclinical and clinical studies indicate that Jiangzhi Decoction improves NAFLD by modulating lipid metabolism, reducing hepatic steatosis, and influencing gene expression related to lipid regulation. It exerts effects through multiple mechanisms, including upregulation of hepatic nuclear receptors and attenuation of lipid accumulation. Network pharmacology and experimental validation have identified the main molecular targets as nuclear receptor transcription factors and lipid metabolism pathways, with key targets including PPARα (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha), LXRα (Liver X receptor alpha), and HNF4α (Hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha)[2][3]. The formula is noted for its multitarget and multi-ingredient approach characteristic of TCM mixtures.
