Overview
Jianpi Heluo Formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). The formula is designed based on the TCM principles of strengthening the spleen (Jianpi) and dredging the collaterals (Heluo), specifically targeting the gut-kidney axis. It is hypothesized to modulate the intestinal microbiota and the mucosal immune system, thereby reducing the production of pathogenic galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) and inflammatory cytokines. In clinical studies, it is evaluated as an adjunct to standard angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) therapy to improve clinical outcomes such as proteinuria and hematuria while preserving renal function.
