Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jianpi Huazhuo Fang (健脾化浊方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, not a single pharmaceutical compound. It is formulated based on TCM principles to "strengthen the spleen" (jian pi), "transform turbidity" (hua zhuo), and often also to dispel dampness and support digestive function. The formula typically contains multiple herbal ingredients such as Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), Poria cocos (Fu Ling), Coix seed (Yi Yi Ren), Dioscorea opposita (Shan Yao), Hawthorn fruit (Shan Zha), Chen Pi, Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gan Cao) and others, though specific compositions may vary by practitioner or indication[1][5][6]. Mechanistically, the formula acts through several pathways: - Enhancing gastrointestinal motility and digestion. - Promoting diuresis to remove excess dampness. - Modulating immune response. - Reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. It is primarily used for conditions associated with spleen deficiency and internal dampness/turbidity in TCM theory—such as chronic gastritis, dyspepsia, metabolic syndrome components like obesity with hyperuricemia[2], atherosclerosis[5], or symptoms like abdominal distension, loose stools, poor appetite, fatigue[1][6]. Jianpi Huazhuo Fang is not an approved pharmaceutical drug in Western medicine but rather an empirical multi-herb formulation widely used in Chinese hospitals/clinics for supportive therapy of digestive/metabolic disorders.
