Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jianpi Huoxue Decoction is a traditional Chinese herbal formula primarily used for the treatment of liver diseases such as alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), as well as for improving intestinal barrier function and treating metabolic disorders. The decoction consists of multiple herbs, with Baishao (Paeonia lactiflora), Zexie (Alisma orientale), and Wuweizi (Schisandra chinensis) identified as major components[4][6]. Mechanistically, it ameliorates hepatic steatosis and inflammation by enhancing tight junction integrity in the gut—upregulating proteins like zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) and occludin—and suppressing myosin light chain phosphorylation to reduce gut permeability[1]. In diabetic osteoporosis models, related formulas such as Bushen-Jianpi-Huoxue decoction have been shown to activate the Wnt signaling pathway while inhibiting NF-κB signaling, thereby improving bone mineral density and glucose metabolism[2][3][7][8]. Clinical studies are ongoing for its use in NAFLD[5].
