Overview
Jianpi Huoxue Formula (JPHX) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and alcoholic liver disease (ALD). It is composed of eight Chinese herbs: *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Bai Zhu), *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Dan Shen), *Citrus aurantium* (Zhi Qiao), *Paeonia lactiflora* (Bai Shao), *Pueraria lobata* (Ge Gen), *Alisma orientalis* (Ze Xie), *Schisandra chinensis* (Wu Wei Zi), and *Curcuma longa* (Jiang Huang). JPHX has been shown to reduce liver fat content, alleviate hepatic steatosis, and improve liver injury. Its therapeutic mechanisms are associated with the regulation of the PPAR and MAPK signaling pathways, as well as the inhibition of JNK phosphorylation and the suppression of caspase-3 and caspase-7 activation.
