Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jianpi Qingchang decoction (JQD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC), particularly for patients presenting with the spleen deficiency and dampness-heat syndrome. It is administered orally as a liquid decoction. Clinical research, primarily conducted at institutions such as Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has demonstrated its potential to improve clinical symptoms, reduce disease activity (as measured by the Sutherland Disease Activity Index), and enhance the quality of life for patients with mild to moderate active UC. JQD is often evaluated as an alternative or adjunctive therapy to standard mesalazine (5-ASA) treatment, aiming to strengthen the spleen and clear damp-heat from the intestinal tract.
