Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jianpi Shengsui (often referred to as Jian Pi Sheng Sui Gao or JPSSG) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation used primarily for the management of cancer-related fatigue (CRF), especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The formula is typically prepared as a paste and consists of 17 different herbs and animal-derived ingredients, including Chinemys reevesii (Asian pond turtle), Cervus elaphus (deer antler), Ligustrum lucidum, Codonopsis pilosula, Hordeum vulgare (barley), Citrus reticulata (tangerine peel), Lycium barbarum (goji berry), among others[9][1][2]. Mechanistically, JPSSG has been shown in preclinical studies to alleviate skeletal myoblast cell apoptosis, reduce oxidative stress, and improve mitochondrial function—effects believed to be mediated via the AMPK-SIRT1-PGC-1α signaling pathway[1][5]. Clinically, it has demonstrated efficacy in reducing fatigue scores and improving quality of life for cancer patients post-chemotherapy[2][9]. The formula reflects TCM principles of "strengthening the spleen" and "replenishing essence," aiming to restore Qi and support recovery from deficiency syndromes associated with chronic illness or aggressive medical treatments.
