Jianpiyifei II

Jianpiyifei II is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation used primarily in China for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially stable COPD and acute exacerbations associated with influenza A virus (IAV) infection. The formula consists of eight herbs: Astragalus membranaceus (Radix astragali), Cimicifuga foetida (Rhizoma cimicifugae), Codonopsis pilosula (Radix codonopsis), Atractylodes macrocephala (Rhizoma atractylodis macrocephalae), Bupleurum chinense (Radix bupleuri), Cynomorium songaricum (Herba cynomorii), Vitex negundo var. cannabifolia (Fructus viticis negundinis), and Prunus persica (Semen persicae)[1][6]. Mechanistically, Jianpiyifei II exerts anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects by modulating several signaling pathways implicated in COPD pathogenesis. It targets the IL-17/MAPK/AP-1 axis within the IL-17 pathway to reduce inflammation; it also suppresses NF-κB signaling[2][3]. Key molecular targets include Hsp90, MAPKs, ERK, AP-1 transcription factor, TNF-α, IL-6, COX-2, CXCL8/IL-8, and MMP9[2][3]. The formula reduces oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in bronchial epithelial cells by interrupting ROS–ER stress–Ca²⁺ signaling[6]. Clinical studies have shown improvements in symptom scores and quality of life measures for patients with stable COPD[5][6].
