Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jianpiyishen (Jian-Pi-Yi-Shen Formula) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal decoction composed of eight medicinal herbs. It has been used clinically for decades in China primarily to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD), and is also studied for other indications such as premature ovarian failure and as an adjuvant therapy in cancer patients. The formula is traditionally believed to strengthen the spleen and benefit the kidneys by tonifying Qi and nourishing blood. Mechanistically, preclinical studies suggest that it exerts renoprotective effects by modulating tryptophan metabolism and aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling pathways; enhancing sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) expression; regulating mitochondrial dynamics; reducing oxidative stress; and improving immune function[1][2][3][4][8]. The formula contains herbs such as Codonopsis pilosula (Dang Shen), Lycium barbarum (Gou Qi Zi), Ligustrum lucidum (Nu Zhen Zi), Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), Cuscuta chinensis (Tu Si Zi), Psoralea corylifolia (Bu Gu Zhi), among others[5][6]. It is available in various forms including granules and decoctions.
