Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiao Qi San (also referred to as Jiaoqi Powder) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula consisting of seven "scorched" (Jiao) herbal components, traditionally used to treat digestive disorders and intestinal bleeding. The formula is specifically investigated for its efficacy in treating ulcerative colitis (UC), where it is thought to exert therapeutic effects by modulating inflammatory pathways and restoring intestinal homeostasis. The seven components typically include scorched versions of Crataegi Fructus (Jiao Shan Zha), Massa Medicata Fermentata (Jiao Shen Qu), Hordei Fructus Germinatus (Jiao Mai Ya), Arecae Semen (Jiao Bing Lang), Aurantii Fructus (Jiao Zhi Ke), Sanguisorbae Radix (Jiao Di Yu), and Sophorae Flos (Jiao Huai Hua). Network pharmacology studies suggest that Jiao Qi San acts on multiple targets, including TNF-alpha, IL-6, and the NF-kappaB signaling pathway, to reduce mucosal inflammation and promote healing of the intestinal lining.
