Overview

Jiaoqi Powder (also known as Jiaoqi San) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originating from the classic medical text *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber). The formula is primarily composed of two ingredients: *Zanthoxylum bungeanum* (Sichuan pepper) and *Toxicodendron vernicifluum* (dry lacquer). Traditionally used for conditions characterized by internal cold and dampness, it is currently being investigated by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Modern research utilizing network pharmacology suggests that Jiaoqi Powder exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating inflammatory pathways, including the inhibition of TNF and IL-17 signaling, restoring the intestinal mucosal barrier, and regulating the composition of the gut microbiota.
