Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiaotai Pill (also known as Jiaotaiwan) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula originating from the Ming Dynasty medical text *Hanshi Yitong* (Han's Medical Circular). It is composed of two primary herbal ingredients: *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian) and *Cinnamomum cassia* (Rougui), typically prepared in a 10:1 dosage ratio. According to TCM theory, the formula functions by clearing heart fire and warming kidney water, thereby restoring the communication between the heart and kidney. Jiaotai Pill is primarily developed and clinically evaluated for the treatment of insomnia symptoms caused by the disharmony of the heart and kidney (ISDHK). Additionally, it has been investigated for its therapeutic potential in depression and type 2 diabetes mellitus, where it is thought to modulate the brain-gut axis, regulate gut microbiota, and improve insulin sensitivity.
