Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiaqishan Shitong Herbal Drink is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital-made preparation developed by the Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It is specifically formulated for the treatment of urolithiasis (urinary tract stones). The preparation is a modification of the traditional "San Jin" (Three Gold) formula, which typically includes *Lysimachia christinae* (Jinqiancao), *Lygodium japonicum* (Haijinsha), and *Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli* (Jineijin). The "Jiaqishan" variant incorporates *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi) and *Dioscorea* species (Shan) to tonify Qi and strengthen the spleen, which is believed to enhance the physical force required for stone expulsion and improve the urinary environment to prevent stone recurrence. Its mechanism of action involves promoting diuresis, relaxing ureteral smooth muscle to facilitate stone passage, and exerting anti-inflammatory effects on the urinary tract mucosa. It is frequently used as an adjunctive therapy following extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to assist in the clearance of stone fragments.
