Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Danggui Buxue Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, considered a modified version of the classic Danggui Buxue Tang. The "Jiawei" (加味) prefix indicates the addition of other herbs to the original two-herb formula. While classic Danggui Buxue Tang contains Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi) and Angelica sinensis (Danggui), Jiawei Danggui Buxue Tang typically includes additional ingredients such as Codonopsis pilosula (Dangshen), processed ginger, Aconitum carmichaeli (Fuzi), and others depending on specific historical or clinical context[7]. The main active components identified in this formulation include quercetin, astragaloside IV, beta-sitosterol, tanshinone, and salvianolic acid[2]. Mechanistically, these compounds exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic effects; they modulate pathways involving p53 and Sirt1 to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation while promoting apoptosis in damaged renal cells. Clinically, Jiawei Danggui Buxue Tang is used for conditions such as postpartum blood deficiency with collapse or syncope due to excessive blood loss[7], diabetic nephropathy[2], postpartum sweating[7], muscle spasms after hemorrhage[7], among others.
