Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Dihuang Yinzi is a modified traditional Chinese herbal formula based on the classical prescription Dihuang Yinzi. It typically consists of multiple herbs, including Rehmannia glutinosa (熟地黄), Cornus officinalis (山茱萸), Cistanche deserticola (肉苁蓉), Morinda officinalis (巴戟天), Dendrobium nobile (石斛), Schisandra chinensis (五味子), Aconitum carmichaelii (附子), Cinnamomum cassia (官桂/肉桂), Poria cocos (白茯苓), Ophiopogon japonicus (麦门冬), Acorus tatarinowii or Acorus gramineus (菖蒲) and Polygala tenuifolia or Polygala sibirica var. megalopha(远志)[1][2][3][4][6]. The "Jiawei" prefix indicates that additional herbs may be added to tailor the formula for specific clinical presentations[7]. This combination is used in traditional Chinese medicine to nourish liver and kidney yin, warm yang, resolve phlegm, open sensory orifices, and support cognitive function[5]. Pharmacological studies suggest neuroprotective effects, improvement of learning and memory deficits in animal models of dementia and Parkinson’s disease, as well as immunomodulatory and anti-aging properties[2][6][8]. The mechanism involves antioxidative activity, modulation of neurotransmitter systems, protection of dopaminergic neurons via microenvironment regulation in the brain, inhibition of neuroinflammation by suppressing microglial activation and matrix metalloproteinases expression[6][8].
