Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Erchentang is a modified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula based on the classic Erchen Decoction (Erchentang). The base formula consists of *Pinellia ternata*, *Citrus reticulata* (tangerine peel), *Poria cocos*, and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (licorice). The 'Jiawei' (modified) variant typically incorporates additional herbs such as *Scutellaria baicalensis* and *Coptis chinensis* to enhance its ability to clear heat and transform phlegm. Traditionally indicated for respiratory conditions involving cough and excessive phlegm, as well as gastrointestinal issues like nausea, modern clinical research has expanded its application to metabolic disorders. It is frequently studied for its potential in treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hyperlipidemia, and metabolic syndrome, where it is thought to modulate lipid metabolism pathways and reduce systemic inflammation.
