Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Erzhi pill (JWEZP) is a modified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation based on the classic Erzhi Wan, which traditionally consists of *Ligustrum lucidum* (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi) and *Eclipta prostrata* (Herba Ecliptae). This modified version is specifically investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating atherosclerosis. Research indicates that JWEZP exerts its protective effects by inhibiting ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death characterized by lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress. By modulating pathways involved in iron homeostasis and antioxidant defense, JWEZP helps maintain vascular integrity and reduce the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. It is typically administered orally as a multi-component herbal therapy.
