Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Kongsheng Zhenzhong Pill (JKZP) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of vascular cognitive impairment and post-stroke depression. It is an augmented version of the classical Kongsheng Zhenzhong Pill (Zhenzhong Dan) from the 'Thousand Golden Prescriptions,' modified with the addition of herbs such as *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), *Ligusticum sinense* (Chuanxiong), *Cornus officinalis* (Shanzhuyu), and *Cistanche deserticola* (Roucongrong). These additions are intended to enhance blood circulation and provide antidepressant properties. Preclinical research indicates that JKZP exerts neuroprotective effects by modulating the S100 calcium-binding protein A10 (S100A10)/tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA)/brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling pathway. Key bioactive markers identified in the formula include senkyunolide H, danshensu, echinacoside, loganin, and 3,6'-disinapoyl sucrose, which contribute to its efficacy in improving cognitive function and reducing hippocampal synaptic damage.
