Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Liujunzi Tang (JLT) is a modified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula specifically investigated for the treatment of nonmotor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD). The formula is composed of several botanical ingredients, including *Codonopsis pilosula*, *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Poria cocos*, and *Uncaria rhynchophylla*. JLT is designed to "Replenish Spleen Qi" according to TCM theory, which correlates with symptoms like fatigue, constipation, and mood disorders in PD patients. Pharmacologically, active compounds within the formula, such as corynoxine and corynoxine B, have been shown to promote the clearance of alpha-synuclein aggresomes by inducing autophagy via the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. Additionally, components of the formula may modulate the serotonergic system, specifically the 5-HT3A receptors, contributing to its anxiolytic and gastrointestinal benefits. Clinical trials indicate that JLT is well-tolerated and provides significant improvements in mood, cognition, and constipation in idiopathic PD patients.
