Overview

Jiawei Simiao Yongan Gao is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) topical paste formulation specifically developed to prevent and treat acute radiodermatitis in patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. Based on the classical Simiao Yongan formula, this "Jiawei" (modified) version works through TCM principles of clearing heat, detoxifying, promoting blood circulation to resolve stasis, and alleviating pain. It is applied topically to the irradiated skin area to mitigate the inflammatory response and skin damage associated with high-dose radiation (typically above 30-40 Gy). Studies have shown it effectively alleviates acute skin reactions during radiation therapy compared to standard nursing care.
