Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Tongru Dan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) botanical formulation primarily indicated for the treatment of postpartum hypogalactia (insufficient lactation). The formula is a modification of the classical 'Tongru Dan' (Lactation-Promoting Pill), which was first documented in the Qing Dynasty medical text *Fu Qing Zhu Nu Ke* (Fu Qing-zhu's Gynecology). It typically comprises a complex mixture of herbs including *Panax ginseng* (Ren Shen), *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huang Qi), and *Angelica sinensis* (Dang Gui) to tonify Qi and Blood, alongside *Vaccaria segetalis* (Wang Bu Liu Xing) and *Akebia quinata* (Mu Tong) to facilitate the flow of breast milk through the mammary ducts. In clinical practice, it is utilized to stimulate prolactin secretion and improve mammary microcirculation, addressing etiologies related to both nutritional deficiency and Qi stagnation. The product is widely available in China as a regulated TCM drug in various forms, including pills and decoctions.
