Overview
Jiawei Yupingfeng nasal irrigation is a modified traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation used as a nasal rinse for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and sinusitis. Developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, it is based on the classic Yupingfeng formula (typically containing Astragalus membranaceus, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Saposhnikovia divaricata) with additional herbs ("Jiawei") to enhance its therapeutic effect. The treatment is hypothesized to modulate the leukotriene pathway, thereby reducing nasal inflammation and symptoms associated with eosinophilic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. In clinical studies, it has been compared against standard treatments like saline and budesonide nasal irrigations to evaluate its efficacy in modulating inflammatory pathways and improving patient outcomes.
