Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiawei Yupingfeng Polysaccharides (JYP) are bioactive compounds derived from the traditional Chinese medicine formula Jiawei Yupingfeng. Characterized by a molecular weight of approximately 23.6 kDa and composed of monosaccharides such as glucose, galacturonic acid, and arabinose, JYP exhibits significant immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties. Research indicates that JYP can mitigate intestinal damage caused by immunosuppressive agents like cyclophosphamide by enhancing the secretion of cytokines (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10) and secretory IgA, while upregulating tight junction proteins such as ZO-1 and Occludin to maintain intestinal barrier integrity. Additionally, JYP promotes a healthy gut microbiome by increasing the abundance of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria and their corresponding receptors, GPR43 and GPR109A. It is primarily being explored for veterinary applications and as a functional food ingredient to support immune and intestinal health in livestock and poultry.
