Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jichuan Decoction (Jichuan Jian) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula primarily used to treat constipation associated with kidney deficiency. The formula typically consists of six herbal ingredients: *Cistanche deserticola* (Rou Cong Rong), *Angelica sinensis* (Dang Gui), *Achyranthes bidentata* (Niu Xi), *Alisma plantago-aquatica* (Ze Xie), *Cimicifuga foetida* (Sheng Ma), and *Citrus aurantium* (Zhi Ke). It functions by warming the kidneys, nourishing the blood, and moistening the intestines to facilitate bowel movements. In clinical practice, it is often prescribed for elderly patients or those with chronic conditions, such as post-stroke constipation, where the underlying pathology involves a lack of vital fire or fluid depletion in the large intestine.
