Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiechangyan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation developed by Jinan Kangzhong Pharmaceutical Technology Development Co., Ltd. specifically for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. As a multi-component herbal formulation, it is designed to address the complex pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease through a multi-target approach. The drug functions by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), while also modulating the NF-kappaB signaling pathway. Additionally, Jiechangyan is thought to promote the repair of the intestinal mucosal barrier and regulate the balance of the gut microbiota. In clinical practice within China, such formulations are used to induce and maintain remission in patients with active ulcerative colitis, particularly those with the 'damp-heat' internal accumulation pattern according to TCM diagnostics.
