Overview
Jiedu Pingchan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Formulated as an oral granule, it is designed based on the TCM theory of 'clearing heat and detoxifying' to address the 'toxin-heat' pathogenesis associated with the progression of Parkinson's. The formula typically comprises several herbal components, including Arisaema cum Bile and Scutellaria baicalensis, which work synergistically to provide neuroprotective effects. Research suggests that Jiedu Pingchan exerts its therapeutic benefits by inhibiting the aggregation of alpha-synuclein, suppressing neuroinflammation through the modulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, and preventing the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. It is primarily utilized as an adjunctive therapy to standard levodopa treatment to improve motor symptoms and reduce long-term complications such as dyskinesia.
